Bruce Wagman, Project Chimps
Sanctuary work, animal law
Bruce Wagman is a partner in Schiff Hardin’s San Francisco office, with an almost exclusive focus on animal law matters, including litigation, legislative drafting and counseling, education, and private consultation. He has been active in animal law since 1992, and has dedicated his career to defending and improving animal lives. He represented two sanctuaries in the successful battle to keep two chimpanzees and nine gibbons
in their new, supportive homes.
He is also a founder of the first chimpanzee sanctuary with an active advocacy program (www.chimpsanctuarynw.org), and negotiated the release of the chimpanzees for that sanctuary from Buckshire Corporation. He was also the sole negotiator with respect to the retirement of chimpanzees for Project Chimps. He has represented or provided consultation for a number of U.S. chimpanzee sanctuaries.
