Ann Dunn at Cat Town
Saving Hard-to-place Cats
Ann is the founder of Cat Town, a cat rescue organization in Oakland, CA, that focuses on helping the most vulnerable cats from local municipal shelters. Cat Town was inspired by Ann's time as a volunteer at Oakland's municipal shelter, where she saw that cats who are too scared in that environment to show their best selves were passed over by potential adopters and rescue partners. After realizing that the shelter cats who most need the intervention were least likely to get it, Ann created Cat Town to save those cats.
When Ann founded Cat Town, in 2011, the euthanasia rate for cats was 42%. By focusing on the cats most likely to euthanized, Cat Town has helped over 1,700 cats and helped reduce the euthanasia rate to 14% in 2016.
